New Radio Station For The Urb
Big FM Will be broadcasting test transmissions in the La Marina Area for the next few days folks.
Tune in and check it out and give me your feedback.
The power levels will be quite low for now but from friday they should be greatly increased to cover the whole urb
The frequency is 89.9 fm
You can also listen online at www.bigradio.es
Went in this morning sounded OK. Not that I new the music being played. Must be playing for a younger audience. But tonight 19.05. There is not any music being played just a hum.
For the next few days the transmissions are purely to test the signal, and the music is a mix of 70s upwards, completely random at the moment.
there will be structured shows comming in the very near future including 60s, country and rock shows. the more feedback we receive, the more we can cater to the requirements of the population.
Big Fm is a community radio station for the urb and surrounding towns so we will be aiming at including information bullentins, charity events etc in the schedule
How about a decent coverage of Country and Western music. It is nice in between music liked by most people. Plus get a DJ who is knowledgeable about C&W.
I agree with the comments about Country and Western music, I love it and find it easy lisening, I am also a big fan of Regaee and would enjoy hearing more of his also.

I have also lost 9.05 Ian I thought I was not being precise enough to find the station, I will give the new station a try once I begin my chores, as I like to listen to music whilst working.
I agree a lot of the music played on these stations is aimed at the younger end of listeners, and rapping drives me nuts lol

Hi Folks the transmitter is now running at full power so everybody in the surrounding area should be able to get the station without problems, there are still adjustments to be made but we will be playing music from the 70s right up to today and the comments about country and western have been taken on board as we already planned to do specialised shows including sixties and rock , but now you said reggae Dee i will look into the feasability for you
thanks Richie I appreciate your willingness to try to include my choice of music on your station.
I love to listen to the stereo when I am doing my chores or relaxing with a book or my hobbies, so thanks for that one I will look forward to hearing my choice soon.

How about mid to late 50s. But please not the ones every one plays look up the Hit Parade for that period and lets hear again some of those who only just got into the top 20. Most radio stations only play a small selection of what was on the turntable in that period. I was a DJ in the youth clubs in those days and it is very boring to keep on only hearing the same old batch over and over again. Then it is made worse by the singers in the bars over here only ever copying those numbers. They do not dig back to what were the tunes we all danced and jived to.
Ok Ian as i said before we will be playing a number of specialised shows and if you have particlar songs in mind email a list to [email protected], we are here for the whole community so we will do our best to cater for most people, however the old saying "you canĀ“t please everyone" will undoubtedly apply. saying that, we will try.
Just for information live shows will begin on the station on the 29th of October at 9am, I look forward to you joining me for our very first full live show
How about a decent Soul and Blues radio station, or at the least, some of the shows dedicated to it!
A quick example When did this Conway Twitty get an airing on a radio station? http://youtu.be/e8pWIW-iMME
Or how about Slim Dusty A Pub With No Beer http://youtu.be/TtcXGs8G17g
Or one I used to always jive to Haven't heard it for so so long Elvis Presley - Party. It was I think the shortest record that Elvis recorded. http://youtu.be/MZYCKubnPiA
There are literally hundreds that deserve a play. How about spoiling us, go on I dare you?
I'll say that 2 out of 3 are very good songs, but I've actually never heard of A Pub with No Beer - that's going back a bit too far Ian !!
I am sure I remember that one Carol, but cannot bring the whole of it to mind. So am I showing my age, who cares, when you look this good at my age lol
I can remember having a record player for my sixteenth birthday, well I think it was for me, but my Dad and my sister also liked music. My mum bought it from I think it was Curry's in Gloucester. One of the first records I had was A Pub with no Beer. I will not say how many years ago that was but they were the little 45 rpm vinyl records.
I had my first record player from Curry"s in Gloucester as well, My mum bought it between my sister and I for Christmas about 1956/7. My friend bought me a 45 ep record by Little Richard and it was played so many times I think mum regretted buying the player.Happy days!
Hazel I was born between Blakeney and Lydney. I lived in Lydney itself for about 22 years. I moved to Blackpool and then over to Spain.
What a small world, I was born in Lydney and lived in Bream and Mitcheldean. All my fathers family came from Bream.Moved to London and then Nottingham when married. The Forest is a lovely part of the country
It is indeed a very small world. What was your fathers family name. I know quite a few people from Bream. I went to school with Glenda Williams I don't know if you knew her. One of my friends from England came out here to live and his dad worked at Downhams Bakery.
You avin a laugh Eve. You went to school. Did they have proper class rooms back in the day or just wooden huts. :)
My family name is Stockwell and also had cousins called Meek in Bream their grandmother lived in the Maypole House just as you go into Bream
I moved from there when a small child but spent a lot of time there afterwards. When in La Marina will pop into the shop and have a chat
he name Stockwell is not familiar to me but the name meek is. My first mother-in-law's sister was married to a Meek and had a son George. His daughter's name was Monica and she died in the early 80's from Cancer. Funny if they were your relations. I would love to see you if you come to La Marina. I normally work Tues, Thurs, every other friday & every Saturday but next week I am having a few days off as my step-daughter is coming over to visit. Take no notice of that Andi's comments he can't help it if he is just a whippersnapper. Only joking we get on quite well, could be my grandson. Cheers Eve.
Will pop in one day Eve.
I take comments as a joke , when I first moved to London from the Forest the people in my first job there used to tease me asking me if we lived in caves and swung through the trees ,it was all in fun and taken as such sadly unlike today! Will enquire from my cousins about the Meeks
Hasta Luego. Hazel. Most of us yer foresters have a sense of humour. Cheers "olde butt".
EVE & HAZEL.
MY SELF & MY PARTNER COME FROM THE FOREST OF DEAN. SUE FROM BREAM , MYSELF FROM WHITECROFT. WE BOTH WENT TO BREAM SCHOOL.
Hello phipper16, depending on your ages , I have cousins who went to Bream school ,Pearl and Hilda Meek and 2 brothers Howard and Gordon. Also used to know a girls called Margaret Glastonbury and Heather Lucas as my Gran lived on Parkend Road.
Hi phipper does your nickname suggest your surname is Phipps. There was an older lad at school than me his name was Chas Phipps. He used to ski the bore tide if i remember correctly. I went to Skegness on holiday in 1975 and he was on the stage as one of the Maxwells. I also think he used to own a night club near the Cross hands Pub someone near the turning up to Birdlip in Gloucestershire. I went to Lydney Grammar School so there were a lot of bream people there. My first job in an Office was Ragosine Oil Company at the old Flour Mill in Bream. My last office job was at Vencel Resil in Whitecroft.
I KNOW CHAS VERY WELL [ NOT RELATED ]. HE NOW RUNS THE ROYAL OAK IN DABDOWN [WHITECROFT ]. HE HAD 3 CLUBS IN GLOUCESTER AT DIFFERENT TIMES. HE ALSO SPENT SOME TIME LIVING ON THE COSTA DEL SO. MY UNCLE JOHN MORGAN PLAYED IN DIFFERENT BANDS WITH CHAS ALONG WITH PHIL PRIEST FROM WHITECROFT & CARL COX FROM LYDNEY. JOHN MORGAN IS NOW THE DRUMMER WITH THE WURZELS [ DRINK UP THEE CIDER & COMBINE HARVESTER ] HE RECKONS HE IS THE OLDEST DRUMMER ON THE CIRCUIT.
I WILL HAVE TO POP IN AND SEE YOU. WHAT CHARITY SHOP DO YOU HELP WITH.

For heavens' sake, this thread is turning into a Genes Re-united or Friends Re-united!! ha ha
What happened to talking about playing good music on a radio station?
MOST OF THE MUSIC I HEAR ON THE RADIO OUT HERE SEEMS TO BE POPPY RUBISH. GIVE US SOME BLUE,S , SOUL & C & W.
Hi Phipper I run the SAT ANIMAL RESCUE charity shop in La Marina. We are at No 3 Calle madrid between the German cafe & Jeff's Office. I normally work Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday plus every other friday.but I am having time off next week as my step-daughter is over. Would love to meet you. The last time we saw Carl Cox we had a meal with him and his wife Val at their home in Cinderford. But, I had better not talk about things anymore as some people may start to complain. Look forward to meeting you both. Cheers Eve
Sorry Pepper in Quesada that we lost the thread but its better to be talking about people and places you know than to be moaning about loud music and the local powers that be.
We are aiming to play music for the majority of the age ranges in the area including specialised shows like C and W as its a community station
Well Richie, that is good, but there is already far too much C & W everywhere! Please can we have some good Soul and Blues programs, also some Rock?
If there are far too many C&W programmes could you please tell us where they are as my husband loves it and the only one he can find was on TKO on a sunday and that ended up with people asking for all sorts and instead of telling them it was C&W he played their requests.Only other one which is quite good is on a Spanish radio on Sundays.Would love to know where these stations are

OK i am too young but good luck
Yes Grant, but again you are mentioning C & W which there is loads of everywhere! Not everyone can stand it, so how about mentioning other types of music, as I said before, Blues, Soul and Rock???
Pepper , as you haver mentioned twice about the large amount of C&W programmes could you please tell me where they are
Ian
I have got a live version of Slim Dusty performing Pub With No Beer on video. Will play it for you on Sunday !!
